A three-point turn asks you to reverse the direction of the car on a road too narrow to swing around in one go. It is three deliberate moves, not one continuous manoeuvre, and what the testing officer marks is almost entirely your observation between them rather than the steering itself.

The manoeuvre
Each move ends with the car stopped. Stopping between them is correct, not hesitant, and it gives you the moment you need to look properly before the next one.
Pull up on the left, close to the kerb, and stop. Apply the park brake if the road has any slope. Check your mirrors, then look over both shoulders and through the rear window for traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. Do not begin until the road is genuinely clear in both directions.
Signal right, check again over your right shoulder, then move off slowly and steer briskly to full right lock. Keep the car crawling and let the steering do the work. Stop before the front wheels touch the opposite kerb, then wind the steering to full left lock while stationary.
Select reverse. Now do the observation properly: mirrors, then over your left shoulder, then over your right, then through the rear window in the direction you are about to travel. Reverse slowly with the steering already on left lock, and stop well before the kerb behind you.
Wind the steering back to the right while stationary. Check your mirrors and your blind spot on the right, signal if you are joining traffic, then move off forward into the correct lane position on the left of your new direction of travel.
Cancel the signal, settle into the correct road position, and build to the speed the road allows. The manoeuvre is not finished until you are travelling normally in your new direction.
What the officer marks
Learners practise the steering and assume that is the skill. In a Service NSW driving test the steering is the easy half. The testing officer is watching whether you looked, where you looked, and whether you looked again before each change of direction.
Where it goes wrong
These are the ones we correct most often in the weeks before a test. None of them is about steering skill.

Where to practise
The street you practise on decides how quickly this comes together. Learners taking Liverpool driving lessons start on quiet residential roads back from the arterials, then move to streets closer to the Orange Grove Road testing centre once the sequence is reliable.
Pick a residential street wide enough that three moves are comfortable, with light traffic, clear sight lines in both directions, no parked cars crowding the kerb, and no driveway you would block. Avoid bends, crests and anywhere near a school at pick-up time.
Once the sequence is smooth, deliberately practise on a narrower street. A manoeuvre that only works on a wide road is not yet reliable, and a testing officer will not choose the easiest street available.
A three-point turn is illegal or unsafe in several places, and choosing the wrong spot is a fault before you have moved. Do not attempt one on or near a crest or curve where you cannot be seen, at an intersection, on a level crossing, across unbroken centre lines, in a tunnel, or anywhere a No U-turn sign applies.
