Around them sit about twenty residential streets with names like Celebration Road, Federation Place and Eureka Crescent. A first lesson here can concentrate entirely on the car: moving off smoothly, stopping at a precise point, steering through corners and checking mirrors, without the pressure of traffic building up behind.
Three avenues around the edge, one through the middle
Cartwright Avenue, Heckenberg Avenue and Sadleir Avenue run along Sadleir's boundary, and Maxwells Avenue crosses the suburb to meet Cartwright Avenue. Driving the avenues is a natural second stage, with side streets, parked cars and through traffic to manage, and it lets a learner practise joining collector traffic from a quiet street at several different intersections.
The Sadleir Public School zone
Sadleir Public School sits among the residential streets, and Ashcroft High School sits on Maxwells Avenue just over the Ashcroft boundary. Practising at school times adds reduced speed limits and children crossing to the lesson, in a setting that is still calm enough for a learner to concentrate.
Beyond the avenues toward Liverpool
Once the avenues are comfortable, lessons leave Sadleir for the arterial roads nearby, such as Elizabeth Drive and Hoxton Park Road, for traffic lights, lane changes and turning lanes, and then continue to the roads around the Orange Grove Road testing centre.
