Conversion timeframes are different
Service NSW currently says Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand licence holders generally have three months to transfer an eligible overseas licence if they want to keep driving in NSW.
Temporary overseas visitors who arrived in NSW on or after 1 July 2023 and intend to live in NSW for more than six months generally need a temporary NSW licence within six months if they want to keep driving. Service NSW should confirm how the rule applies to you.

Tests depend on the licence and applicant
Service NSW may require a Driver Knowledge Test, Hazard Perception Test, practical Driving Test or other checks depending on the issuing country or jurisdiction, the applicant's age, licence history and current eligibility.

An International Driving Permit is not a NSW licence
NSW Government guidance says a driver whose overseas licence is not in English must also carry an English translation or an International Driving Permit while eligible to drive as a visitor. Service NSW decides which translations and documents it accepts for a NSW licence application.
