Lessons are only one part of the cost. Each budget below adds the $294 in Service NSW fees a learner pays to reach P1 when every test is passed first time, and a car for the driving test. The fee figures were checked against the NSW Government fees page on 13 September 2026.

Where the budget goes wrong
A failed driving test is the most expensive hour
Each driving test attempt costs $72 in Service NSW fees. A learner who hires the test car pays for the $220 car hire package again as well, so a second attempt adds $292 before any extra lessons. Booking the test after a mock test on the Liverpool routes costs less than rebooking after a fail.
